MacVoices #14072: Road to Macworld – Jim Sherhart of Connected Data Introduces The New Transporter Developer Program

The Road to Macworld comes to an end with a stop to talk to Jim Sherhard  of Connected Data, who announces a new Developer Program for the Transporter, their affordable private cloud device. So why is that exciting? Because developers can now build Transporter support right into their apps, and that means that your confidential information can live on your private cloud and sync across all your Macs, iDevices and Transporter without ever having to be in someone else’s hands. With all the privacy breaches and concerns that have become a seemingly daily thing, that’s huge. Jim gives us all the details as we wrap up and head for Macworld/iWorld 2014.

MacVoices #14071: Road to Macworld – Geoff Barrall Talks About The Brand New Drobo

The Road to Macworld takes a road trip to Drobo headquarters in San Jose, where CEO  Geoff Barrall introduces us to the newest member of the Drobo family. The most affordable Drobo ever joins the party just as more people are creating more content and need  something that protects all those photos, videos, scanned documents, and more. Geoff explains how the newest Drobo is similar but better than the legacy USB 2.0 and FireWire units, how its introduction fulfills an objective the company had from the beginning, and outlines a special upgrade offer for owners of the original models.

MacVoices Update: March 2014 and Macworld/iWorld 2014

A quick update to provide you with all the information on where to find me at Macworld/iWorld 2014 so we can meet. Those scheduled appearances include:

Drobo Booth #424 – Interview with Geoff Barrall, Thursday, March 27 at 5 PM
I’m really looking forward to this. Geoff and I will discuss storage, its place in today’s computing environment, both Transporter and Drobo, and more. Better than that, there will be a limited number of Drobo t-shirts given away, so get there early. Best of all, if you’re there for my session, you’ll be eligible to win a Drobo on the spot. You will also have more chances to win a Drobo in their regular drawings, and can make a short video about the Drobo you love. By the end of the first day, you’ll be looking for a place to sit down. Come and be entertained!

Meet The Podcasters – Friday, March 28 at 11:30 AM (Second Stage on the Exhibit Hall Floor)
Some of the members of The Mac Roundtable will discuss whatever comes into our heads, and I’m honored to be moderating the group who is tentatively scheduled to include John F. Braun and Dave Haminton of Mac Geek Gab, Katie Floyd and David Sparks of Mac Power Users, Jeff Gamet of We Have Communicators, Don McAllister of ScreenCastsOnline, Ken Ray of Mac OS Ken, and Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Mac Podcast.

Managing The Information Flood: Find Out What You Need to Know When You Need To Know It – Friday, March 28 at 3 PM (Conference Track Session)
All new for 2014, this session will make you think about the information that inundates you every day – what you need, what you don’t, and how to manage it. With some hardware, software and service recommendations, you will learn how to stop drowning and start swimming in the data stream.

Mac iPad and iPhone Essentials: The Stuff You Gotta Have – Saturday, 10 AM (Conference Track Session)
There are plenty of products out there, on the Macworld/iWorld show floor and beyond, but how to choose. In this session, I’ll talk about some of the hardware and software that I think are required additions to your arsenal. Some are fun, some are serious, all are essential.

Cool App Demos – Saturday, March 29 at 11:30 AM (Second Stage on the Exhibit Hall Floor)
I’ll be hosting a look at some of the coolest apps out there. Not giving anything away yet, but if you’re an app addict, this is where you will want to be.

Also, a couple notes on upgrades to The MacVoices iOS app, a reminder to subscribe to the MacVoices Dispatch newsletter, and announcing The MacVoices Blog.
