At the O’Reilly Photoshp Cook-Off reception at PhotoPlus Expo in New York, a group of students from the Academy of Art in San Francisco discuss their ambitions as photographers and how their institution works to adjust the curriculum in a rapidly changing world. The group also talks about why still photography is not only relevant in a multimedia world, but also about the blending of the two, and why the required skills of one apply to the other.

Digital photography pioneer Stephen Johnson discusses why he switched to digital photography long before many professionals and how he was using Adobe Photoshop, “…before Photoshop was Photoshop.” Stephen’s new book, Stephen Johnson on Digital Photography from O’Reilly, is about the history of digital photography, and how he believes photographers should be looking at the balance of creating their images in the camera and in Photoshop. He talks about his philosophies of taking and manipulating images, the future of digital photography, why his approach to photography is to capture light and not objects and more.
