One of the most popular calendaring and contact solutions in the Mac market is about to undergo a transformation. John Wallace, the president of Now Software talks about how their popular Now Contact and Now Up-To-Date programs are being rewritten from the ground up into a new program currently codenamed Nighthawk. John talks about their selection of Sync Services as the path for getting information into and out of Nighthawk, the different levels of servers available and how they feature enhanced collaboration capabilities. John also talks about cross-platform compatibility and what what Now Software looks for in a beta tester and how you can sign up.

I have owned and used Now Contact and Up to Date since 1996. I was thrilled to hear about this long awaited newly rebuilt from the ground up version. However, I am so very disappointed that it will not include a robust email client to make this PIM a complete solution. I know its asking a lot but it isn’t enough to couple this PIM with Apple’s feeble Mail client. After all, what is a PIM without this all important component?
Guess it depends on the degree of integration with Mail. (Not such a feeble client in my view – I use it all the time because it does what it says on the tin and (mostly) doesn’t crash). However, if Mail and NH can’t get it together on To Do’s (Like the excellent MailTags) and do the obvious stuff with contacts, then I agree, a client needs to be included.
